I am keen to recycle as much as I can but live in a small flat and have little space for storing what is basically rubbish, albeit recyclable rubbish. I am very lucky that my council has a mixed recycling collection once per week, where they will take a mixed bag containing paper, plastic bottles, glass, tins and cans. I can store a week of recycling in the corner of the kitchen.
I discovered the other day that Brita filters can be sent back to Brita for recycling. The filters are taken apart, the filling somehow reactivated and reused. Even better they can be sent FREEPOST; I can recycle and it will not cost me anything.
Wrap and send cartridges to:
BRITA RECYCLING,
FREEPOST NAT17876,
Bicester, OX26 4BR
Well done Brita, I will be using this service when my current filter needs changing.
Updated: Robert Dyas stores now have a Brita Filter drop off bin for used filters. Well done Brita and Robert Dyas!

I wonder if they have a similar program here in Canada. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
I’ll check it out.
I hope they do Ruth, it’s an excellent idea.
Annoyingly they do not fit into our British postboxes so I have to put mine into the post tray at work.
Brita filters are not recycled in North America, where the company is owned by Clorox. Please sign on to our petition to urge Clorox to create a recycling program in North America like the one in Europe:
