Rather sadly for her, my mother is starting to develop painful arthritis in her hands. This makes the pushing, twisting motion needed to juice citrus fruit over a traditional juicer or reamer a painful experience. She has restored to starting to juice them and then scraping the flesh with a knife to get more juice out. Uncomfortable, painful, messy and wasteful – something had to change.
I spotted the Chef n’ Citrus juicer in the Lakeland catalogue and thought it would be just the ticket for her juicing difficulties, and they sent her one to try out.
The verdict is – Juicing Perfection!
This nifty gadget has a clever (and patented) ratcheting system, that coupled with the long handles allows you to exert a great deal of force on your citrus for very little effort.
My mother loves it, she says that she is getting far more juice from the fruit and that it is so easy to use and that she is barely exerting any force at all so her hands do not hurt.
If you do not have a dishwasher it is slightly fiddly to wash up, and this is best done immediately before the pulp has time to dry. Otherwise the juicer is dishwasher proof.
She thought that the juicer was solid, sturdy and well made. Certainly bulkier than a glass juicer, but smaller than an electric one. It fits quite happily into the drawer.
All in all an excellent gadget and well worth the £19.99 price tag for easy, and more importantly pain-free juicing.
The Chef’n Citrus Juicer is available from Lakeland for £19.99.
Many thanks to Lakeland for sending me one for my mother to review.
