I usually leave the reviews of smaller items for my monthly round up, but occasionally a product is good enough, and excites me enough to warrant an entire post.
Last week Sarah and Ted came for lunch and for entertainment for 5 year old Ted we made pizzas, using Cirio Pizzassimo Pizza Sauce as a topping, and we were very very impressed. Thick and deeply flavoured, rich, sweet, dark red and bursting with tomatoes with the perfect amount of herbs added without any of the bitter and slightly metallic taste you sometimes get from tinned tomato based sauces.
Ted had a lovely time spreading the sauce, simply dollop it on the pizza and spread around with the back of a spoon.
One 400g tin will cover around 3×12″ pizzas. At £1.09 (Ocado) for a 400g can it is certainly cheaper and easier than making your own pizza sauce, I imagine it will also go very well with pasta. Very highly recommended.
It would be nice to get it in smaller cans, but the sauce freezes well so it is not really a problem.
Many thanks to Cirio for my samples of their products.

Mmm what is more delicious, the sauce or the boy spreading it… I am biassed of course!! xx
Both are equally lovely, although Ted does look particularly delightful in that photo.
Looks delicious and what a fun day. I now desperately want pizza and it it 11pm at night. Not good!
Lovely day – we have a very good children’s playground locally too, useful for letting off steam.
Good to know, thanks for the reco, Helen!
This is great to know Helen. I will definitely be trying it. I have used the Pizza Express sauce in a can before as a cheat, so I will see how this compares. I always buy Cirio tomatoes and puree as I think they are the nicest you can buy when shopping in an average shop in the provinces…
