A selection of Pieminister pies reviewed
Now that winter is banging on the door, the clocks are about to go back and the heating is on, it is officially comfort food time, and what can be a better comfort food than a pie?
We reviewed the Pieminister recipe book almost a year ago and recently the folks at Pieminister HQ got in touch and asked if I would like some pies to review and (due to lack of freezer and fridge space) had them dispached to my parents to test out.
With 14 pies currently on offer, there is something in the range for everyone!
So over to my mother …
Review: Pieminister Pies
In general I found the packaging really rather busy and slightly confusing, but thought the names quite fun and standing out from the competition. Loved the deep fill of the pies, but I found the pastry quite hard, but Daddy loved it, pastry is a personal preference.
Pieminister Funghi Chicken Pie Review
Free range British chicken, chestnut and field mushrooms cooked in a creamy white sauce
Plenty of mushroom flavour, almost too much. More chicken please!
Pieminister Deerstalker Pie Review
British venison and outdoor reared dry cured bacon with red wine and puy lentils
Liked it very much – tender meat with lots of rich sauce. Delicious with green vegetables fresh from the garden.
Pieminister Pietanic Fish Pie Review
MSC approved smoked haddock, salmon, pollock & prawns in a creamy sauce
We really liked the flavours of this pie, but we thought that for this particular pie a flakey pastry would have suited better, even so I would buy this again.
Pieminister Peahock Review
British outdoor reared ham hock with garden peas and mustard
Did not like the mint flavour in a hot pie, this one was not for me.
Pieminister Free Ranger Review
Free range British chicken and outdoor reared ham hock with leek and west country cheddar
Good filling, plenty of flavour and decent sized pieces of chicken. Pieces of ham hock added to flavour and interest.
Many thanks to Pieminister for the pies.
