About Me

me

I love food.   I seem to spend most of my time thinking about food, reading about food, preparing food, eating food and then blogging about food.    I am not a chefy cook, the simpler fuss free approach works best for me.    Although I do cook complex dishes from time to time, I prefer to prepare ahead and cook fresh ingredients supplemented from the freezer and store cupboard.

Although the blog has evolved to become mainly vegan, I am not.   I have discovered that I feel far healthier eating a plant based diet.   On the occasions when I do eat animal products I like them to be free range and organic.   The ethics of food is a huge complicated issue and worthy of an entire blog.   I continue to read about the subject and I like Michael Pollan’s mantra of  “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants”.    I try to think about my health, the environment, animal welfare and cost when choosing my food.     I hope that my vegan recipes will help people realise that animal products are not essential at every meal and you can eat good food without them and then enjoy free range and organic as a more occasional treat.

I believe that everyone has the right to be able to afford to eat healthy food, sadly we all know that this is not the case for all.   I recently discovered my local vegetable co-op that does make fruit and vegetables accessible and affordable for anyone.   I am delighted to be supporting them and am writing a series of recipes for the produce typically obtained from them.

Unless otherwise stated all recipes are my own creations.

I live in West London and can be contacted at helen at fussfreeflavours.com

  1. Hi there

Are you planning to enter ICL? It would be terrific to see you there!

I have not looked you up for sometime but as I have just made some muffins with one of your old recipes I have re-connected – and I am very pleased to see that you are still doing things for our edification. Like you I do as my mother did – but there are not many if us out there. Thank you!
