Blogger Secret Ingredient – Week 80 – Capers

I am delighted to be hosting the 80th Blogger Secret Ingredient and to announce my secret ingredient of capers!  I adore capers and their salty sourness, interesting they are actually a flower bud.    They are widely used in Southern European cooking, go well with pasta, on pizzas,  used in tartar sauce etc etc.     I will accept recipes using either caper buds or caper berries.

Here are a few ideas for capers:

Asparagus & Tofu with Charred Caper Dressing
Pepper and Caper Salad
Roast New Potatos with Capers and Olives
Gnocchi with Capers
Sardine and Caper Pate
and lastly, but by no means least Fuss Free Flavours’ Favourite Pasta

Simply make a dish with capers in, take a photo, blog it, link to this post and mail me the details (helen at fussfreeflavours dot com) by 10pm UK time on Sunday.   This should give me time to write the round up ready to be published on Monday morning.    If you would like to host next week please let me know.

As an added incentive to take part there will be a small prize for my favourite dish.

I am very new to the event and am delighted to be part of it and wish I had discovered it before.   Full details on BSI are on Biz’s blog.

In summary:

  • Make something with the secret ingredient; this week it is capers.
  • Blog about it and send me an e-mail with a photo and link to your blog.
  • I’ll post a summary, choose a winner and next week’s host.
  • If you do not have a blog, take a photo, and mail me the recipe and I’ll post it for you.
  • Any questions, please mail me (helen at fussfreeflavours dot com)

I look forward to reading your delicious caper recipes.

This challenge has completely passed me by, but then looking at the past list, I realise don’t know the bloggers on it. It is funny how you can have a huge blogging community around you (I have over 70 blogs on my blog list) and yet you barely touch on all the blogs out there.

I think that they are mainly North American blogs, so do not get linked to so much from all the UK and European ones.

I discovered lots of American vegan blogs via the PPK and then from there the non vegan ones. I also love many of the Australian cookery and craft blogs too.

I really should do a geographic blogroll post.

I love capers, they are so jam packed with flavour. I remember the first time i tried it was on a pizza, and I was very pleasantly surprised.
    Have a wonderful weekend.
