Cold brew tea is a refreshing and less bitter take on iced tea, with no need for added sugar. This thirst quenching version is made with green tea, flavoured with orange, blueberries and mint.
Ed and I are weak tea people. We love the flavour but not the intensity and the resultant bitterness. We add a pinch of tea and let it brew for a few minutes, or have a quick tea bag dunk in-and-out. Come summer we switch to cold brew, dunk a tea bag in a jug of water, add some citrus and herbs for extra flavour and leave in the fridge overnight to infuse. The result is a delicate iced tea which has none of the bitterness of hot brewed tea, so there is no need to add any sugar or other sweeteners.
This week has an extremely civilised start when PGtips asked me on board The Elizabeth for a Monday morning breakfast cruise on The Thames. We embarked on the south side of the river in the shadow of Tower Bridge, my old office, which I do not miss one little bit, is visible just above the red bus. The last time I had been to Tower Bridge had been on a scorchingly hot summer’s evening to a party in one of the walkways, which are also open to the public. (They also have a glass floor which causes a certain level of nervousness for some).
Up the river we went, under Tower Bridge, past the London Eye until we got to the Houses of Parliament (such a vast, complex and old building that part of it is always covered with scaffolding for repairs), and the iconic Elizabeth clock tower (Big Ben is the actual Great Bell inside the tower).
Tied up next to Westminster Bridge was a giant floating PGtips Green Tea Monkey, enjoying a cup of tea!
Later once the tide had dropped and there was no longer any danger of Monkey losing his head he was taken on a little tour to see more of London
Blueberry &; Orange Cold Brew Iced Green Tea
Ingredients
- 1 -2 Green tea bags - we used PGtips green tea
- 750 ml | 3 cups water
- 1 orange - sliced
- 1/2 cup blueberries
- 3 springs of mint
Instructions
- Simply put all the ingredients into a jug and allow to infuse overnight in the fridge.
Monkey seems to approve – and for anyone wondering he is dressed for a relaxing session at the spa, not a judo suit as I initially thought.
How do you like your tea? Have you tried cold brew?

I’ve never tried cold brew tea but it sounds delicious. Definitely one to try over the summer when refreshing drinks are called for.

We love cold brew, refreshing and not at all bitter.

I’m a real tea belly but generally only like steaming hot ‘black’ tea, fairly strong but with quite a lot of milk. I do keep trying green tea but am not really that keen, maybe a fruity recipe like this would help change my mind.
Helen
I am a weak tea person through and through so this version is perfect for me!
Donna
I love cold brew iced tea – we always have a jug in the fridge over summer. This version sounds refreshing and delicious :)

Would you believe that I didn’t drink tea until I was over 40! A late starter! I drink fruit tea, green tea, herbal tea. This recipe looks very refreshing. Bookmarked!

I did not start until I was at University, and am addicted now, but always very weak.
