This healthy iced green tea contains no added sugar and counts as one portion of fruit and vegetables. Delicious and refreshing.
When Ed was at school his parents lived abroad, and he spent many summer holidays in Canada, returning to the UK to school. One North American habit he picked up was a love of iced tea – those flavoured branded bottles that you buy to gulp down in the summer that are laden with additives and e-numbers. I really do not like them, mainly because they are made with black tea, and simply taste too strong for me. I like my tea weak, but well flavoured, and in the summer we drink gallons of cold brewed green tea.
The advantage of the cold brew is that the tea is fully extracted, but does not become either especially strong or bitter, the resulting drink is clear, bright and refreshing. I’ve paired my cold brew green tea with a simple fruit and vegetable juice – the classic combination of carrot, orange and apple to make a flavoured healthy cold brewed iced tea – despite its lurid brightly coloured appearance this drink only contains 4 natural ingredients, with no added sugar, unlike those flavoured bottled iced teas. As well as being refreshing this cold brewed iced green tea is packed with vitamins and counts as one portion of your daily fruit and vegetables.
You really cannot taste the carrot in this, and at first sip you really would think it was a superior quality fruit flavoured bottled iced tea – it has a lovely balance of sweetness from the fruit and tannin from the tea, we really were surprised at how good it was and quickly gulped our glasses down even on a chilly January morning.
Healthy Cold Brewed Green Iced Tea with Carrot Juice
Ingredients
- tsp Japanese green tea - 1/2 or one tea bag
- 2 carrots
- 2 apples
- 2 oranges - peeled
Instructions
- Fill a large glass with water, add the tea and leave to cold brew in the fridge overnight. In the morning strain, or remove the tea bag. Put the carrots, apples and oranges in the fridge overnight to chill
- Pass the carrots, apples and oranges through a slow, or masticating juicer.
- Mix the juice with the cold brew tea - you want about a 50:50 ratio and enjoy immediately
I really like slow, or masticating juicers, firstly they are far quieter than the centrifugal type, which is essential if you live in a flat like we do. The wide shoot means that you can drop a whole apple into it without the need to peel or chop. The slow movement means that there is little heat transfer and when made from chilled ingredients the fresh juice is fridge cold. The pulp is dry so there is little wastage, and the machine is sturdy, robust and built to last a lifetime. You can also feed frozen bananas and other fruit through the machine to make instant healthy ice creams and sorbets.
This healthy iced green tea was made in the Jason Vale Slow juicer which we received as a review gift from QVC. All opinions our own.

I’m not much of a fan of bottled tea drinks because they are just too sweet and strong tasting, but this looks delicious. I love that it doesn’t have any added sugar or odd artificial ingredients but you still get that beautiful, bright orange color.
Helen
Isn’t it just so so bright?

This looks amazing! I could really go for a glass this a.m. I’ve just recently swapped my juicer for a high powered blender (only so much counter space), but I’ve been thinking of picking up another. This recipe is enough to motivate me! Thanks so much!

I have been using cold brewed green tea as a smoothie base recently, which has been working really well. This one is so refreshing.
