The capital of New Brunswick, Fredericton, is in the centre of the province and, sits nestled alongside a bend in the St John river. It is a charming, quiet leafy town, and worth a visit for a few hours.
By London standards it is a quiet, sedate town, Christ Church Cathedral is more the size of a British Parish Church. There is barely any traffic on the main street at lunch time.
The Fredericton Regional Museum sits on the main street throughout town on a green square.
Red brick buildings opposite the museum, Botinicals Gallery is stocked with local crafts and art made by 11 New Brunswick artists, perfect for present shopping. Unfortunately it appears that the shop has now closed (updated November 2021)
From the tranquil sculpture garden at the side of the river it is a pleasant walk from the shops in the centre of town to the Cathedral, past a stature of Robert Burns.
I visited on a sunny and warm late spring morning, when the sun was peeking though the new bright green maple leaves, but the weather is not always as good, with warnings from winter time remaining.
Pretty pastel coloured timber clad houses surround two sides of the cathedral green.
The Lighthouse on the Green on the banks of the St John river is a popular place in the summer serving light meals and snacks, with great views of the city from the top deck (admission CAD2).

I went to university for a year in Fredericton, and then lived there for some time afterwards. I have had many a wander through these streets, both in day and night! Thank you for bringing the memories back with your post. :)
