What have we got for our Halloween? A Toxic Swamp Smoothie, glowing green!
A Halloween Smoothie
With the abundance of chocolate and sweets on offer at most Halloween gatherings, the accompanying sugar highs seem pretty guaranteed. After all, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of traditional apple bobbing involved these days.
To counteract the effects, and to provide some fruit and veggies my toxic swamp Halloween smoothie packs a double banana hit, with added swampiness from spinach. Serve it at Halloween parties, bonfire parties and as a pick-me-up after guising (or trick or treating, if you’re American).
I know that many children are averse to spinach, but you cannot taste it at all. Whip them up out of sight of the children, or add some cocoa powder for an extra muddy toxic swamp.
How to Make a Toxic Swamp
I used banana flavoured drinking yoghurt, blended with banana as a base for the smoothie. Ordinary banana or vanilla yoghurt would work in its place. Just thin it down if needed with a little milk.
If you have a decent blender, make an extra thick smoothie by peeling and freezing chunks of banana and blitzing from frozen. (A standard stick blender will be powerful enough to pulverize the spinach but might not cope with frozen banana)
If you feel that the green toxic swamp will not go down well with your little horrors, make a muddy toxic swamp instead. Just add a spoonful of cocoa powder and a little honey to sweeten.
Serve with (slightly) scary stories of toxic swamps and lots of warm hugs. A perfect sweet treat to pair with these would be my seasonal soul cakes.

Fabulous recipe and idea Helen and a wonderful tonic to all the sweets and chocolate around this time of year. I long for a proper smoothie machine but will try this in the magi mix and see how it works.
