One of the most read, and polarising, posts on this site is my review of Kenco Millicano, a instant coffee with added finely milled whole beans (about 15%), which adds taste, aroma and “thickness” to the drink.
For what it is I am very impressed with it, although it is not a replacement for real ground coffee. But for the occasions when it is too much of a faff to make ground coffee – travelling, camping, sailing, work (I have previously been told off for washing coffee grounds down the sink) it is pretty good, and far far better than standard instant. It is also good for when you need a coffee flavour, and I keep a tin in the cupboard for baking.
To my palate the decaffeinated version tastes pretty similar to the original. If you want a decaff coffee without using ground then it is a great product. I suspect I will be using my tin up baking coffee flavoured things only because I drink herbal teas rather than decaff.
If you do try it you need to make it quite strong – a heaped teaspoon for a small mug. I also find adding a little water and stirring then topping up and stirring again makes it taste better.
A 100g tin is RRP £4.79 with a 85g eco refill pack for £3.59. All Kenco coffee is Rainforest Alliance Certified. Many thanks to Kenco for my sample tin.
