We first tried out the online take away ordering service from JUST EAT last year, when they kindly sponsored our Big Curry Night for the ABF. It is a simply process, login to the JUST EAT site, choose a cuisine, pick a restaurant and order. We like that we discovered a different (and better) Indian restaurant than the one we had been using, the ease of ordering via the JUST EAT website – simply click what you want to order and once you have registered your details are saved so there is no possibility of a mistake when giving your phone number, address of credit card details (with JUST EAT the restaurants do not get your card details).
To celebrate the great British take away JUST EAT are running the Tried & Tasted awards – simply vote for your favourite takeaway before the end of this month. The winning restaurants in each area and category will be awarded the title of Best Indian in East London, or Best Chinese in West London as appropriate and hopefully winning will give their business a deserved boost.
By taking part you can win Pick your favourite from our highest rated restaurants, and you could win some awesome prizes- iPad Mini 16GB, £25 JUST EAT voucher, Kindle Fire HD, Samsung Galaxy Tablet (the “Prize”) and JUST EAT branded onesies – to take part pop over to the main Tried & Tasted London voting page and pick your favourite from the shortlists for each part of London.
We tried out a meal from one of the nominated restaurants in West London; Pappa & Ciccia, a two-restaurant chain based in Fulham, West London who offer a full Italian menu for delivery.
The pizza delivery moped is a frequent sight around here: our local Dominos has a fleet of the things sitting outside, ready to zoom off at a moment’s notice with an emergency Margherita. What is less common is a delivery service offering a fuller range of Italian food which is what Pappa & Ciccia do.
Their extensive menu has choices of risotto, pasta, pizzas, as well as bruschetta and panini, antipasti, drinks and desserts as well as an extensive wine list; we tried crab linguine and a mixed seafood risotto. Portions were extremely generous; there was a good sized crab in the linguine, with the claws and legs included whole to pick, the sauce was rich, nicely spicy and contained cherry tomatoes and rocket. Likewise, the risotto was large enough to satisfy the hungriest soul with a generous amount of mixed seafood. (The leftovers fed us for lunch and there is enough in the freezer for another meal.)
Quality was at the “good restaurant” level: not fine dining, but worth the price of £13.50 and £12.95 respectively. The salad chosen to accompany was a slight disappointment; excellent artichokes, broccoli, olives and and green beans were padded out with boring shredded salad leaves that bought nothing to the dish. For pudding, we could hardly turn down the tiramisu (£3.95), which we found very light; again, the portion was generous and more than enough for two. Overall, quality was good for the price and certainly more than we expected from a delivery Italian meal.
We know where our Tried & Tasted vote is going – and where another takeaway will be ordered from.
