One of my favourite sites to browse and do some (digital) window shopping is notonthehighstreet.com, a virtual emporium of British designers, artists and craftsmen where you can spend many hours and want to spend a large amount of money. The company prides itself on inspiring, surprising and different items. Perfect for presents (there is a large range of items that can be personalised), with something for everyone and every room of the house. By shopping at notonthehighstreet.com you are supporting independent suppliers, who all come together under the notonthehighstreet.com portal.
I was delighted to be asked to take part in a Secret Santa challenge from notonthehighstreet.com, selecting 3 (early) Christmas presents at £30 each for three other food bloggers, and receiving 3 gifts in return.
My first present was these two delightful porcelain splatter bowls, from Made by Hands. I adore the slightly irregular shape and that each one is unique with a different splatter pattern. I am not sure whether to use them (I am thinking that mini spring rolls with a dipping sauce would look stunning) or display them, either way I am sure that they will be used again and again on the blog. Also in the range is a mid-sized bowl which I might buy; or add to my Christmas list, to complete the set. £22 for the large, £6 for the small bowl.
Also from Made By Hands is this delightful little jug, equally perfect for a single flower or a small amount of cream or dressing. I love the ripple effect of the sides, and the simple almost naive loop for the handle. Again do I use it, or display it? (Little White Jug £25). My Santa also sent me a fill your own tea bag kit, with which I’ll be experimenting with some herbal blends to help with the ever present insomnia. (£5, 60 tea bags from Freshly Forked).
Last to arrive, and exceedingly well wrapped (it took me about 5 minutes to get into it), was a Camembert tray for baked cheese. There are few occasions in life which cannot be improved by melted cheese, and it is perfect Saturday talent show telly fodder so is ideal for this time of year. (£29.50 Papa Dave Creative Carpentry).
As well as the lovely present swap there was a little competition, and my favourite present, by a whisker, were – drum roll – the Splatter Bowls!
Many many thanks to notonthehighstreet.com, and my Secret Santas, for my presents, I do hope that they like what I have picked for them. I really enjoyed the time I spent perusing the site and have got lots of fantastic ideas for things to both give and to put onto my Christmas list.
