As part of our alcohol free January with Brita, they offered to fit a Brita Filter tap for us, so we could experience freshly filtered Brita water on tap. As our water is not actually that hard (and there is also zero space under out sink), we gifted the tap to Ed’s sister who runs all her water through a filter jug before drinking it or using in the kettle or coffee machine.
Brita contacted us to arrange the fitting, and confirmed the day before. On the day it took the engineer about 40 mins to fit the new tap, install the filter cartridge and show us how to change it. The cartridge is about the size of a litre bottle and sits neatly under the sink. We were also provided with a handy timer to count down the days until the filter needed changing.
We were pretty impressed – with the jug it took 4 minutes to filter a litre, the tap took an impressive 15 seconds – that is 8 times faster! Ed’s sister was pretty pleased with the result.
What a revaluation – living in an area with extremely hard tap water, the use of a filter jug has been a constant since we moved in 2 years ago. Saucepans are regularly coated with a high water mark of limescale – not to mention the frustrations of my other half pinching the jug of newly filtered water just as I was about to use it… all that is now at an end with a newly installed Brita tap. Filtered water is available at the turn of the tap – saucepans now look almost clean as they come off the stove, and it’s a doodle to fill the kettle, iron, coffee machine etc. I can even taste the difference on a blind tasting with pure tap water, as can my 10 year old daughter… The freedom of filtered water literally ‘on tap’ is wonderful and finally I can get rid of another piece of kitchen clutter (the bane of my life) – the old filter jug…
Brita filter taps including installation have a RRP between £170 and £449 – with frequent offers around the £130 mark if you shop around. Replacement cartridges cost £45 and will last between 3 – 6 months (500 – 1000 litres) depending on the hardness of your water; so running costs are between £7.50 – £15 a month. We all thought that the offer was very good value especially or a home in an area with very hard water, but would struggle to justify paying full price, or using in London where the water is not that hard.
