Goodlife hit the spot with 3 of your 5 a day in a handy microwave from frozen veggie packed ready meal at under 300Cal.
After a long hiatus I am back doing the 5:2 diet. Working with food means that you do tend to eat lots and unfortunately the pounds can creep on. It is the best job in the world, but I find traditional diet does not really work for me, and two days a week of 800 or fewer calories works well for me. The 5:2 or fast diet became popular several years ago following an episode of Horizon with Dr Michael Mosley, and lots of my friends have done really well on it.
It does take a bit of getting used to and; I suspect, is easier in the summer when you can happily eat huge quantities of salad to keep full. The trick is not to try and cook low cal recipes – I don’t see the point of a pizza made with a wrap and not enough cheese to satisfy the smallest mouse – but rather have a big plate of something tasty and filling, but also low in calories.
Goodlife make frozen vegetable packed meals – I reviewed their Kievs, Falafels and Sausages at the start of the year. What I really like about them is they are vegetarian products that celebrate vegetables, rather than being analogues of the meant containing versions.
New to the Goodlife range are these frozen ready meals with cauliflower rice, containing fewer than 300Cal and perfect for a 5:2 diet meal.
Goodlife 3 Bean Chilli with Cauliflower Rice
A super generous portion, of chunky cauliflower rice with a juicy 3 bean chilli containing red & white kidney, as well as pinto beans in smokey tomato sauce with lots of cumin and coriander. We enjoyed this and found it very satisfying, the photo shows about 2/3 of the amount of chilli and all the cauliflower rice. Microwave in 8 minutes or oven cook from frozen in 35 minutes. Vegan. 276 kcal.
Goodlife Vegetable Masala with Cauliflower Rice
A delicious cream masala, tomato and coconut sauce containing red pepper, chickpeas and roasted sweet potato. Again this was a very generous portion (about 2/3 of the amount of masala is shown above) which kept me full for the whole afternoon. Comforting with a lovely but not overwhelming amount of heat. Vegetarian and 294Cal a portion. Microwave in 8 minutes or oven cook from frozen in 35mins. Delicious and our favourite.
Both the meals contain 3 of your 5 a day, a high in protein are gluten free and kept me full for the afternoon on a fast day. Ideal for those on a diet, following the 5:2 diet of just trying to eat more vegetables. Keep a few in the freezer for a comforting meal after a busy day at work. At £2 they are an absolute bargain and I’ll certainly be stocking up.
