Asian Salad Dressing

This simple and delicious multipurpose Asian sesame dressing made with just 5 pantry ingredients is one of my favourites. It keeps for ages, and is perfect for all your salad, dipping and marinade needs!
Servings: 15 Tbsp
Prep Time3 minutes

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 tbsp cider vinegar - 1
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce - 2
  • 2 tbsp toasted sesame oil - 3
  • tbsp runny honey - 4

Optional

  • ½ clove minced garlic
  • ½ tsp freshly grated ginger

Instructions

  • Mix Put all of the ingredients in a jar with a lid that fits tightly.
4 tbsp olive oil, 3 tbsp soy sauce, 2 tbsp toasted sesame oil, 1½ tbsp runny honey, 4 tbsp cider vinegar
  • Store & Serve Put the lid on tightly and shake well until all the ingredients are well combined. Transfer to a dressing bottle using a funnel if you like.

Notes

Ingredient notes
1 - Vinegar - you can use cider or white wine vinegar - you need something that has a bit of bite and acidity. You can substitute some rice wine vinegar, but it is very mild so keep some of the other vinegars to give some sharpness.
2 - Soy Sauce -  like a mix of dark and light but it does not matter too much. You can also use tamari.
3 - Toasted Sesame Oil - it needs to be toasted for the delicious nutty flavour. A regular cold pressed sesame oil has very little flavour.
4 - Honey - an everyday runny honey, that is nothing too special. You can also use sugar, maple syrup or rice syrup.
Storage
Keeps in a sealed bottle on the counter top for a few weeks.
Fridge – If adding fresh ingredients keep the Asian dressing in the fridge but take it out half an hour before serving to come up to room temperature. Keeps well for 4 days.
Hints and tips
  • Do not fall into the trap of adding salt out of habit. There is plenty of salt in the ingredients, and if you add extra, you will spoil the dressing.
